Black Crab is a 2022 action thriller film of Swedish origin that was released on Netflix. The film is directed by Adam Berg and Pele Radstrom and is based on a book written by Jerker Virdborg, published in the year 2022. The film stars Noomi Repace, Dar Salim, and Aliette Opheim as Caroline Edh, Malik, and Forsberg respectively. Black Crab is a story about a group of soldiers who, along with the expertise of a speed skater, are asked to embark on a dangerous mission to deliver a secret package to a research base that could potentially end the war in the country. The soldiers have to skate across the sea ice behind the enemy lines to deliver the package. The movie Black Crab is based on a book written by a Norwegian author named Jerker Virdborg. The book is called Black Crab or “Svart Krabba”, which was published in the year 2002. Black Crab is not entirely based on a true story. However, there is some truth in the threat of viruses that are stored in vials, thereby causing panic and fear. In the year 2021, six vials that were labeled as “smallpox”, were discovered in a lab. However, the CDC tested these vials and concluded that there were no traces or elements that would usually be found in the smallpox virus. Moreover, another element of Black Crab that is borrowed from real life, is that Sweden has a specialized combat unit that is trained to carry out covert missions under the harshest of conditions, just like the way that is portrayed in the film Black Crab. While the movie may not be based on a true story, some elements are borrowed from real life.

Black Crab Story
The story of Black Crab depicts the story of its protagonist, Caroline Edh, who is in search of her daughter, after being separated from her years earlier. Caroline is a speed skater who is recruited by the military and is on her way to her base when her driver abandons her in a dangerous neighborhood and is attacked by the refugees of that area. Caroline fights her way out of there and arrives at her reporting base, wherein she meets the other soldiers recruited for the mission of delivering a secret package to the research base located behind enemy lines, by skating their way through the sea ice. Though Caroline deems this to be a suicide mission due to the dangers of skating on thin ice, she sees this as a chance to rescue her daughter Vanja, who has been living in a refugee camp and dreams of reuniting with her.
The team leaves the next day and before they are briefed about the mission, Forsberg falls through the thin ice and drowns. Caroline tries to unsuccessfully save her but manages to retrieve the two packages from Forsberg’s bag. The group then goes to a house on the land, tries try to recover from the extreme cold. The next day a helicopter bombs the house when Karimi is using the radio. This leads the group to believe that he might be a traitor. The next day the group decides to skate on ice but finds it difficult and they decide to travel by land. They stop at the house of an elderly couple to rest and recover. However, the man tries to kill the soldiers, resulting in the death of the old couple and Karimi. While the group is resting on a ship, Granvik opens the package out of curiosity and finds out that it is some sort of biological weapon which leads to a crisis of conscience among the soldiers. Caroline eventually reaches the research base and is congratulated by her superiors. She requests to see her daughter but is told by the commander that this was all a ruse to get her to safely deliver the package to the base. This angers Caroline and she attacks the commander. Worried about how the military will make use of the biological weapons, Caroline tries to destroy the vials with Nylund’s help. She gets the vials from the laboratory after threatening the scientists, and they escape and make their way to a helicopter at the edge of a cliff, where they are stopped by North. Caroline reveals that she attached the vials to a detonator and she jumps off a cliff and detonates the grenade. After her death, she falls into the sea, she is reunited with her dead daughter underwater and they embrace one another.
