Starting his music career at just the age of fourteen, Yo Gotti released songs under the name Lil Yo. His debut album Youngsta’s On a Come Up was released in 1996 but it did not become much of a success. As were his albums after that. However, after a lot of failures, Yo Gotti released his major label debut studio album Live From The Kitchen in 2012. This album was Yo Gotti’s ticket into the Top 20 on the US Billboard 200. The album featured tracks like 5 Star, Women Lie, Men Lie featuring Lil Wayne, Look In the Mirror, and many other chartbusters.

Born as Mario Sentell Giden Mims on May 19th of 1981, in Memphis, Tennessee, Yo Gotti had a very rough childhood. His parents were of Zimbabwe and South African descent. Having grown up in the Ridgecrest Apartments in the Frayser neighborhood of Memphis, he was always surrounded by crime.
When in third grade, he saw his family members getting arrested by federal agents who raided his house. Many of them were sentenced to 15 years in jail. As a result, at a very young age, Gotti began smoking, drinking, and getting involved with drugs. But because of his passion for music and releasing this would only lead to a life in jail, Yo Gotti gave up his misdoings and focused on music. He started singing at 14- years of age under the name Lil Yo.

Because of a troubled childhood and a very hard journey in the music industry, Yo Gotti keeps his personal life very private. As far as we know, he is not in any relationships currently and is not married either. Apart from his music career, Yo Gotti also founded a record label called Collective Music Group.
