Is David Beckham Gay?
You might be wondering why all of a sudden, we are discussed about this famous footballer’s sexual orientation. Well, no, David Beckham has not made any announcement about him being gay, or he has come out of the closet. David Beckham is happily married to his stunning wife, Victoria Adams, and the couple has four children together. Brooklyn Joseph, Romeo James, Cruz David, and daughter Harper Seven are the children of David and Victoria Beckham. Beckham and Victoria met when she attended a Manchester United match.
Victoria Adams herself is very accomplished and formerly was a member of the superhit pop music band Spice Girls. She used the stage name “Posh Spice”. Both of them were at the peak of their careers and already huge teen icons. The David-Victoria relationship gained a lot of media attention and was cherished all over the world. Undoubtedly, they became the power couple at the time and finally got married in 1999 at Luttrellstown Castle in Ireland. So there is no doubt that David Beckham is straight.
So why is this question being asked? Well, David Beckham is known for his open support of the LGBTQ community. He has also worked with gay magazines like Attitude and often prefers giving interviews and doing photoshoots with magazines and publications that support the rainbow community. David has provided support to his gay fans and proudly flaunts his title of ‘gay icon’ given to him by the homosexual community.
Even though Beckham extends such a generous amount of support to the LGBTQ community, he is not gay himself. He has also donated big amounts of money to help provide support for the betterment of the community. However, his immense support is now being questioned due to his involvement with the Qatar World Cup. So what is that about? Let’s take a look.
David Beckham And The Qatar Controversy
In the wake of the 2022 Football World Cup, which is set to be held in Qatar this year, David Beckham has become their official ambassador. However, there are some serious homophobic laws prevalent in Qatar. Homosexuality is a punishable offense in Qatar which often includes death. So if you are gay in Qatar, you will most likely die. According to Human Rights Watch (HRW), a non-profit organization, the condition of homosexuals in Qatar is very bad. They report that homosexuals have to go through alleged cases of beatings and sexual harassment. Transgender women are also forced to attend conversion therapy sessions at healthcare centers. Keeping all of these reports in mind, many of Beckham’s fans have criticized him for being the ambassador for the 2022 Qatar World cup. British comedian Joe Lycett has pointed some big fingers at Beckham and Qatar.
According to him, by being the ambassador for Qatar World Cup, David is also supporting the homophobic laws of Qatar. Lycett went on to say that Beckham’s image as a gay icon is also shredded due to his involvement with Qatar. Beckham, however, has not made any comments about this. Beckham, in many instances, has said that he supports growth in football positively. Thus many of his fans are very disappointed with his involvement with Qatar. Lycett, who identifies as gay, has also pointed out that Beckham has flipped from his beliefs due to the £10 million bond he signed with Qatar and Fifa World Cup.
What Is David Beckham Saying?
With all of this controversy and finger-pointing going around, Beckham chose to remain silent. He has not given any statement about his involvement with Qatar. David has not given any statement about him leaving this deal either. With just a few months left to the start of the Fifa World Cup, fans are very confused about what Beckham is thinking of doing.
